BEST FOR NON-CATS/DOGS PETS

Our review on Santévet

Santévet is one of the most established and widely trusted pet insurance providers in France. With over 20 years of experience, it offers comprehensive reimbursement plans, wellness coverage, and tiered protection levels for both dogs and cats.

Unlike newer digital-first platforms, Santévet is more traditional: it offers both app and phone support, detailed policy documents, and coverage that is often accepted by vets across France without question. It's also one of the few insurers to automatically include a wellness allowance in every plan.

For your dog

Choose from 5 flexible plans that cover 60% to 100% of vet expenses for accidents and illnesses. This includes a wide range of services like consultations (routine, emergency, specialist), medications, surgery and anesthesia, hospitalization, medical imaging (scans, MRIs, ultrasounds), ambulance fees, radiotherapy, alternative medicines, laboratory tests, and even annual dental descaling (after 2 years of contract).

For your cat

SantéVet provides 6 tailored plans for cats, including a specialized "Cat Indoor" formula for indoor felines. Similar to dog plans, these cover 60% to 100% of vet costs for accidents and illnesses, encompassing consultations, medications, surgery, hospitalization, advanced diagnostics, ambulance services, radiotherapy, alternative therapies, lab tests, and annual dental descaling (after 2 years of contract).

Shared Benefits for All Pets

Regardless of whether you have a dog or a cat, SantéVet offers these key advantages:

  • No medical exam required to insure your pet.
  • Reimbursement requests are processed within 48 business hours.
  • Lifetime coverage: Your pet remains insured for their entire life, regardless of age.

  • Practical included services: Access to advance payments and payment facilities with Payvet, 24/7 telephone assistance for veterinary emergencies, and a convenient mobile application.

Pros

  • Lifelong Coverage: Once your pet is insured, they're covered for their entire life, with no age-based exclusions once enrolled.
  • Preventive Care Contributions: Their plans contribute to the cost of preventive treatments like vaccinations through a dedicated prevention budget.
  • Flexible Plan Options: Santévet offers various formulas, allowing you to choose a level of coverage that best suits your pet's needs and your budget.

Cons

  • Age Limit for Enrollment: There are age restrictions for new subscriptions; pets must typically be between 2 months and 10 years old at the time of enrollment.
  • Annual Commitment: Contracts usually require a 12-month commitment, meaning you're locked in for a year once the policy starts.

About Santévet

FAQ - Frequently asked questions about Santévet

  • The age limit for subscribing to a plan varies depending on your animal's species and breed. This age limit applies only to the initial contract subscription.

We accept new subscriptions for companion animals aged between 2 months and 10 years, depending on the species.

Once insured with Santévet, your faithful companion will be protected by our guarantees throughout their life!

  • As with any animal health insurance, your commitment is for 12 months starting from your contract's effective date.

For example, if the effective date is July 28, 2023, the commitment will be valid until July 27, 2024, at 11:59:59 PM.

Once this commitment period passes, the contract is tacitly renewed each year unless a cancellation request is made, following the conditions outlined in our General Provisions.

  • All our plans reimburse veterinary fees in case of illnesses and accidents, and also contribute to the reimbursement of preventive care such as vaccinations.

  • Yes, a portion of vaccination costs can be reimbursed up to the annual amount available in the Prevention Budget* included in your dog or cat plan.

For example, if you have a Comfort+ plan with an annual Prevention Budget of €75, and your vaccination consultation costs €60, we'll reimburse the full €60, leaving you with €15 for the year to cover other preventive care (like antiparasitics).

For NAC (New Companion Animals) plans, only the Prevention Budget of the Rabbit plan allows for vaccination cost reimbursement, up to €25 per year.

Santévet Review 2025

Santévet provides comprehensive pet insurance with a range of customizable formulas (Light, Confort, Confort+, Premium, Optimal), allowing pet owners to tailor coverage levels from 60% to 100% reimbursement for veterinary expenses. A significant advantage is their commitment to lifetime coverage once a pet is insured, ensuring continued protection regardless of age. Their plans are also distinguished by an included dedicated prevention budget (ranging from €25 to €150 annually) for routine care such as vaccinations, deworming, antiparasitics, and even sterilization, which can be utilized from the start of the contract without a deductible or waiting period. This proactive approach to pet health is a major draw for many.

Beyond traditional dog and cat insurance, Santévet uniquely offers plans for New Companion Animals (NACs) like rabbits, ferrets, and birds, demonstrating their broad scope of care. Their dog plans offer 5 options, covering various services from consultations to advanced imaging and even annual dental descaling (after two years). For cats, 6 tailored plans are available, including a specific "Cat Indoor" formula.

Common benefits across all plans include no mandatory medical exams for enrollment, swift reimbursement processing within 48 business hours, and practical services like advance payments and payment facilities via Payvet, 24/7 telephone assistance for veterinary emergencies, and a user-friendly mobile application. The ability to avoid upfront payments for large veterinary bills, as highlighted by a customer testimonial, offers immense relief during stressful emergency situations.

However, it's important to be aware of certain conditions. While reimbursement rates are flexible, an annual fixed deductible typically applies, ranging from €0 to €75 depending on the chosen plan. There are also age limits for initial subscription (e.g., 2 months to 7 or 8 years for dogs/cats, depending on the breed). Standard waiting periods apply for different types of care: typically 48 hours for accidents, 45 days for illnesses, and longer for specific surgeries (often 60 days) or serious conditions like cruciate ligament issues or hip dysplasia (which can be 120 days or more). Pre-existing conditions are generally excluded from coverage. Contracts usually have a 12-month commitment with tacit renewal.

While many customers praise Santévet for rapid reimbursements, responsive customer support, and peace of mind during emergencies, some long-term clients have noted concerns regarding slow reimbursement processing times and occasional unhelpful customer service, suggesting potential inconsistencies in their service delivery.

Overall, Santévet remains a well-established and trusted option in France, particularly appealing to those seeking long-term, comprehensive coverage, a dedicated prevention budget, and insurance for a wider array of beloved pets.

A Savior in an Emergency: My First Experience with Pet Insurance As a new pet insurance customer after years of having animals, I often faced the challenge of high veterinary costs, especially during emergencies where options are limited. This weekend, I experienced just such a situation. The relief of not having to pay upfront was immense. SantéVet directly managed the payment of my portion of the bill, in accordance with my contract. It was an immense comfort when my only concern was the critical condition of my animal. I believe that without this insurance, I would have hesitated to take my animal to the emergency room to wait until Monday, which could have been fatal for him/her. I also want to highlight the compassionate and genuinely concerned support from the staff on the phone during my moment of total anguish. Their understanding truly made a difference. In the future, I can no longer imagine adopting an animal without having insurance in place.

Having been with Santévet for almost 20 years, I have always been satisfied. Today, reimbursements are too slow. The phone advisors are sometimes unpleasant. It's difficult to reach you. For long-term illnesses, I would like the initial diagnosis to be taken into account for treatment renewal. Thank you
